"When we travel, we force ourselves to experience the world as we have not known it yet--we try new things and think about the world in new ways. The drastic shift in perspective that travel inspires fills me with wonder."
Reflecting on the impact of technology in our lives: it's exciting to feel closeness to the world abroad. The ability to navigate the world with family and friends has never been this easy and I am in wonder of the destinations and journeys ahead!
Our sense of wonder is the catalyst for everything we discover and experience in our lives. From the unforgettable travel moments to our next big idea, everything starts with a sense of wonder. What will your sense of wonder uncover today?
Experiencing nature and the wonder of the natural earth around us can dissolve almost any issue. Dive into a body of water. Put your face to the sun. Watch waves crashing. These moments can be transforming and soul quenching.
When you travel, it’s not the things you do that make it life-changing. Something special is sparked! You learn something new about yourself, connect with family in a new way or experience the embrace of the local culture.
As I was on a boat tour around the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, we reached a point where you could see lava flowing into the open ocean. In that moment I was struck with the knowingness that I am a part of something bigger than myself.
I find the greatest moments of wonder happen when you least expect them. Just by having the courage to show up somewhere new, you give yourself the chance to stumble upon hidden wonders you couldn't have even imagined.
I'm in awe that all small towns and big cities alike have memory-making experiences waiting to be discovered, we just have to visit and explore. Regardless of the number of times I've been to a destination I always find something new to appreciate or a favorite to revisit.
Exploring new places on family vacations and watching our kids experience something for the first time. The drive to keep going up the trail to reach the overlook and then ask what the next adventure is.
I love traveling because of the wonderful places I get to discover; the world we live in is truly marvelous. The beauty that exists is something magical but what leaves me in awe every time are the people that I meet along the way.
Since the age of 5, I have loved exploring the outdoors, especially in the mountains. Wherever I travel, I am always fascinated by every new "mountainscape" I come across. Since having kids, I am continually amazed by the excitement they have for life, and the love they share.
Travel can be like a good sci-fi or fantasy novel. These people started from a different place, at a different time, had different inputs, and made different societal decisions, so they see everything differently. It’s fun to stumble on different layers of that.
Standing on my paddle board just before first light over a grass flat in gin clear water off of Duck Key Florida looking for a rolling tarpon to cast to and take me on a sleigh ride under the bridges of the Overseas Highway.
There are few things more satisfying than arriving on a mountain top after a long hike. The view more than makes up for the effort to get there. Take a few deep breaths, sit down and relax. But then you see the next mountain. THAT moment, when you decide that you will be on top of the next mountain, is pure magic.
I am in wonder every time I turn a corner and discover evidence that people love to make and enjoy things of beauty, from simple community art to grandiose natural landscapes. Every moment can reveal a history or delightful freshness that connects you more deeply with the human experience.
There was once a span of 36 hours when I sat upon a hilltop along a mango-tree lined path in Uganda overlooking Lake Victoria, then walked the streets of London during a layover and finally found myself riding a train in Chicago. That is when I first thought, "The more I see, the more I realize how little I've seen," and knew the rest of my life would be in pursuit of that kind of wonder.
I remember an overwhelming sense of wonder when I was paddle boarding on a remote lake in Bush Alaska, surrounded by mountains and looking down to see salmon swimming below me. There is so much beauty and culture tucked away there.

Austin O Daines
Junior Data Analyst
Born outside of Oakland, California, Austin adopted the Oakland A's as his team at a young age. His love for data began during his formative childhood years as he watched Billy Beane turn a team of misfit, washed-up players into a championship level ball club. Austin is curious by nature and thrives when there is a problem to be solved.
Prior to becoming a Zartican, Austin was a graduate assistant coach for the Idaho State University men's basketball team where he tackled all things data as well as team travel and logistics. He also spent several summers hitting the pavement as a door-to-door salesmen. He attributes those years as his education in the school of hard knocks. With experience in data analytics, coaching, and sales he brings a vast array of tools to the table. It's no wonder he gets mistaken for Bob the Builder on a regular basis.
Austin is no joke when it comes to recreational activity. Often he can be found covered in grass stains after a competitive game of Spikeball, or covered in the forest as he searches the trees for his errant frisbee throw. He currently resides in Utah with his lovely wife and their adorable daughter, but, like his idol Billy Beane, Austin lives in a space of making something out of nothing.

Natalie is passionate about the unique opportunities and challenges city DMOs face. Prior to joining Zartico, Natalie spent 6 years at Visit Baltimore, most recently as their Director of Destination & Business Intelligence where she led with a data-first approach. Working closely with the Convention Sales & Service team, Natalie found herself in awe of the impact convention business can have on a community such as Baltimore. While jobs, taxes and the total economic impact of this business remain critical to monitor, Natalie believes DMOs need to shift their focus from monitoring to optimizing their unique data sources. Often, the DMO is the only one in the community that has the data, and therefore the power, to look at business holistically.
During her time in Baltimore Natalie was inspired by how often community stakeholders looked to the DMO for answers to their most-pressing economic development projects. Natalie believes DMOs will be called to the table for these conversations more than ever over the next decade.
Natalie still lives in Baltimore with her partner, their dog Camden (named after the iconic Camden Yards stadium) and their adventurous outdoor cat Bleu.

While working on his undergraduate, he worked a variety of jobs, including a backcountry ski guide and rock climbing guide.
Soon after graduation, Alex realized that during all his work in the outdoors, maps were an integral part of his experiences. This pushed him to also pursue a Master's Certificate in GIS at Utah State University. Alex has grown to love GIS, and he wants to better the world with it.

Collin has some of the most unorthodox work experiences and unique perspectives around.
Collin’s worked with thousands of downtown organizations, having created and developed the idea of huge colorable mural activities to enhance community events and downtown programs. Every client has a story they’d like to tell, and we helped them tell it graphically with these life-size coloring book pages.
Before that, Collin worked on two Olympic Ceremonies, men’s and women’s World Cup, Super Bowls, television commercials, and more recently, the NCAA College Football Championships, creating visual tools and processes to organize and coach the teaching teams that show thousands of participants where to be and what to do over months of rehearsals. It’s the ultimate customer experience bootcamp, having to be wildly organized, yet fun enough so all those people want to come back for the next twenty rehearsals.
Collin lives in North Salt Lake with his wife, 13-year-old daughter, a corgi, and a fantastic view of the Great Salt Lake. He enjoys hiking, basketball several times a week, playing music with friends once a month, and snow skiing (sadly) once a season. If he could somehow magically create more time, he’d love to get back to golf, tennis, sailing, scuba diving, camping, or drumming.
